Heroes in my life: Christine Welsh

Back in 2015, when I had just started sewing bags, one of the first designers I ‘found’ was ChrisW.
I’m so glad for that. Without knowing it, I learned heaps from her patterns. I even started with an advanced pattern.
Little did I know that sewing curves and piping is not considered ‘easy’ย  or beginner-ish ๐Ÿ˜‰

The benefit of using one of Christine’s patterns is that she is not just explaining what you have to do, but also gives an explanation as to why.
Another bag I made at the start of my sewing life was Evelyn. To make this one I used a fleece like caftan fabric. Yes that is rather thick. and no my machine was not happy ๐Ÿ˜‰
The 3rd picture is from the Pick a Pocket, a slimline wallet. That wallet has been my day to day wallet for over a year.

When Marsha asked if I wanted to join in the World Blog Tour, it was an immediate ‘YES’ from me. I wanted to have an excuse to sew some more of Christine’s patterns, and also to remake her Evelyn.

I have nearly all Christine’s patterns and have made most all of them.
She has designed 2 of the most amazing wallets. The Penny inn is not for the faint hearted, but any ‘Pippi Longstocking’ with a decent domestic machine can do it.

The Pick a Pocket is doable by anybody.

Did you know that Christine recently started making video’s for her patterns? Yes, I’m not alone anymore ๐Ÿ˜‰
Now you can have a chance to get a few of her patterns as well, with a discount.ย  Go and browse through her shop and use the codeย GlobalBlogTour17 to get a 20% discount.

For me, I’m allowed to gift 2 patterns for the Evelyn to readers of my blog.
I choose 2 winners and gave an consolation price to 17 others.ย  The winners will have to wait till the end of the Tour.
Comment below and give an answer to this: What is Naaielaere?
(I’m only going to approve your comment with the correct answer after today. So please do comment)

  1. You have come so far in a short time, Anne. And yes, Chris is an outstanding role model–her pattern-making and her personality!

  2. Your Evelyn is so beautiful! The black with fuchsia combination and the topstitching is great!

  3. Lovely makes – all of them.

  4. Awwww I think I have a swollen head now Anne haha! Thanks so much for your lovely comments and I love all your bags and wallets, mine or otherwise! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Wow, you did a whole bunch of bags!! They all look so nice!

    1. Thank you Vanessa. All Chris her patterns are worth making.
I am on a quest of making all the bags. I’ll start with all the bags in my pattern collection that I have not made yet. 60 to go.

  6. I have no idea what that means. Google couldn’t even help me. Have you made the Lombard Street Bag? I have the pattern, read it through (a bunch of times), but haven’t picked out fabric yet.

    1. It is something you can find on my website ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have not made the Lombard Street Bag yet. I’m not realy into that style of bag. But I do have almost all her other patterns ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Do you have another website then as I put it in the search box here and got no results.

Christine is a great teacher, I started with her Stow it All and made 8 before moving on. The Epiphany is my go to bag at the moment!

    1. I have only 1 website.
I guess you are looking in the ‘search products’ box and not in the general search box. Good to know that I need to improve my website!

At Serial bagmakers we are 4 people. One of us recently did something with Naaielaere.

  8. Naaielaere is a workshop studio of sorts? A place where Aafke can teach?

PS: I have followed your Facebook posts and different reviews. Have appreciated them all. ๐Ÿ™‚

PSS: Evelyn and the original Bella were 2 of my very first bags also. Chris was the first designer that made me feel confident enough to jump in.

    1. Dyan, you were the first to get the answer correct!. That deserves a price! I’ll contact you via email.
